About this Project
The torch on surface on the vast concrete roof of a popular discount shopping warehouse had reached the end of its theoretical life and was experiencing some ponding water, for which torch on is not certified, and which resulted in areas of localised flooding. AquaLoc was contracted to fix the issues currently experienced and to implement a solution that would better protect the business from future problems.

Rather than continue to fix problems piecemeal in a haphazard fashion as they arose, the client took a progressive approach and after a consultation with AquaLoc, it was decided that the best approach was to cover the entire roof with a seamless silicone membrane, which actively repels ponding water and is protected by a 10-year warranty.
First the roof was power-washed to remove dirt and grit, and the water stains were also removed from the parapets.
The seams of the torch on were caulked with silicone, cracks in the parapets filled, and each of the drains, plinths, and the areas around the equipment were sealed as well.
Waterproofing Membrane
The parapets were painted with Uniflex silicone sealant and then the roof was covered in the liquid-applied rubberised silicone membrane, section by section.
Finishing Touches to Protect the Roof from Everyday Traffic
Finally, paths for trade and workmen traffic, were covered with fine granules to protect the surface and prevent against pedestrian slippage.
